My new project - the Silhouette Portrait cutting machine.

After lots of research and working out exactly what I wanted and needed in a machine that could cut out both paper and fabric. I wanted one that I could connect through my computer and I could do up most of my own designs without have to use cartridges. This one was a great price at the moment down from $269 to $239 at Craftonline.com.au.
Silhouette Portrait from Craftonline.com.au

I have used it once to print out some tags for some Mothers day gifts that we are making to sell at the next Morayfield Handmade Expo on the 4th of May.

I have now been researching different places to find tutorials on how to use it.

There is the tutorial that comes with the machine which is ok to cover the very basics.

I still have a few questions about looking after the cutting mat such as I am I supposed to put the piece of paper back on afterwards as the mat has a slightly adhesive surface which I guess is to hold down the paper/fabric that you are cutting out. I am wondering what happens when it stops being sticky.

Here are a few other basic tutorials that I haven't looked at in depth but will go back later and have look but maybe useful for others who are starting out like me.

DIY Own Labels

A few years ago I made my own clothing labels and found some tutorials for it but that was before Pinterest  was around and you couldn't save certain sites. So now I am searching for the same tutorials. There are a lot where you buy the sheets to print off in your printer such as this here:

and this one from here
But the one I am looking for is where you use Freezer paper and your printer which works out a cheaper option. So after googling DIY Labels using freezer paper I finally found what I was looking for.
Here is the first one I have found:

and I think this is the one I found originally here:

So my project today is to do my own clothing labels. Will take some photos and maybe do my own tutorial just for fun. You can never have too many tutorials on the web. Aside from doing your labels this way another great idea I had see was to use Spoonflower which is a site where you can design, print and sell your own custom fabric. It is a great site and very affordable for custom fabric printing.

On Shelley made blog I found great tutorial for labels using Spoonflower:
and there are heaps more at Pinterest

So why not give it a try and do it yourself and save some money. It is lots of fun.

Exciting Times Ahead

Well its been a few years since I have written a post on here. I have been redesigning the whole look and still not 100% with it. But will keep it like it is now until I have some better ideas. Since I have written my last post so much has happened. I won't be able to cover it all but just a little of it.  I have started studying  Graphic Design to help me in designing websites but have only been able to about 6 months of it due to having to help my  oldest son Joshua with homeschooling. This didn't really work out so we sent him back to high school this year but I am currently not 100% in my heath. I have finally found out after 10 years of searching and struggling with what I thought was severe IBS that I asked for a gene test to be done for celiac disease which has never showed up through just having a blood test for it. It turns out I have one of the genes. I have now had the Endoscopy to see if I have any damage and confirm celiac disease. I had to continue to eat gluten whilst waiting for my appointment which has taken months. In the mean time I have been becoming more and more tired and drained and my brain isn't functioning very well. I have had very little motivation and have been feeling depressed. After having the Endoscopy on the 10th of October I have been trying very hard to stop eating Gluten in a hope that this is all I will have to do to improve my health. I am starting to think that I am starting to feel like I am improving. So here's hoping and praying that I am on the path to healing.

So apart from all that one of the most recent things that we have decided to do is start our own sewing business which of cause be called Jamarah Creations. We are looking at being supported by a program called NEIS which stands for New-Enterprise-Incentive-Scheme. The government will help support us to get our business up and running. As I have started making items I will post pictures to show what I am doing and will be opening up a shop on Etsy. I believe this will help us to be able to support ourselves and be able to stay and home and care for the kids.

Queensland In Flood

I have been so slack at posting blogs. I decided I had to share this vidoe clip that I put together this to show what has been happening in our area of the world. It has been very sad and stressful.

Please help to support the Flood Appeal.

Life Is Hectic

As you can tell I haven't posted for a while. This has been due to life becoming very hectic. My father in law passed away on the 5th of November, after a brave struggle with cancer. James has been constantly helping in any way in can. On Monday the 15th of November, we had a memorial for Bob. It was such a lovely service. We ended the day by going on a boat out to sea to scatter his ashes. I told the kids now that when they look at the sea they can think of Grandpa being all around them.

The boat that we went on to scatter the ashes.

Waiting for the boat to arrive.

James reading a poem in rememberance of his dad.

The beautiful sunset.

Matthew getting to drive the boat.

Samuel happy to go up stairs.

Samuel getting his turn to drive the boat.

I have also been struggling with my health and having no energy and lack of motivation. I am about to go to a naturapath that I found through a weekend magazine.
I watched this really great webinar, 7 Steps to Freedom from Anxiety, Depression & ADHD Webinar,  that explains so much as to why I am the way I am. So tomorrow, Thursday 18th and Friday 19th November I have a first appointment. I am praying that this will be the beginning of getting my life back. Will let you know how it goes.

Why Women Cry?

A little boy asked his mother, "Why are you crying?"

"Because I'm a woman," she told him.

"I don't understand," he said.

His Mom just hugged him and said, "And you never will."

Later the little boy asked his father, "Why does mother seem to cry for no reason?"

"All women cry for no reason," was all his dad could say.

The little boy grew up and became a man, still wondering why women cry.

Finally he put prayed to God who would surely know the answer.

When God responded he asked, "God, why do women cry so easily?"

God said: "When I made the woman she had to be to be made special.
I made her shoulders strong enough to carry the weight of the world, yet gentle enough to give comfort.
I gave her an inner strength to endure childbirth and the rejection that many times comes from her children.
I gave her a hardness that allows her to keep going when everyone else gives up, and take care of her family through sickness and fatigue without complaining.
I gave her the sensitivity to love her children under any and all circumstances, even when her child has hurt her very badly.
I gave her strength to carry her husband through his faults and fashioned her from his rib to protect his heart.

I gave her wisdom to know that a good husband never hurts his wife, but sometimes tests her strengths and her resolve to stand beside him unfalteringly.

And lastly, I gave her a tear to shed. This is hers and only hers
exclusively to use whenever she needs it.

She needs no reason, no explanation, its hers."

"You see my son," said God, "the beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair.
The beauty of a woman must be seen in her eyes, because
that is the doorway to her heart - the place where love resides."
